Over eight decades ago, Atlanta Ballet was merely a fledgling notion that belonged to one impassioned and driven young woman. Yet decades later, Dorothy Alexander's vision of spreading the beauty of dance throughout Atlanta and the Southeast established her as one of Atlanta's greatest visionaries for the arts. Her vision extended beyond the Atlanta area as she organized the nation's first regional ballet festival and helped to found the Southeastern Regional Ballet Association. Soon after, she was instrumental in the development of the National Association for Regional Ballet, now known as Regional Dance America.
